Hi, my name is Petra and I am the one behind Karlen.

I was into furniture since I was little and in 2007 I got a formal University education in this field. But destiny had other plans for me and I ended up being a Nuclear Safety Engineer. Furniture design is still my passion, so I am trying to do both. Engineering by day, designing furniture in any free moment I have.

I know it is an unusual combination but I really like both and I think these two fields nicely complement each other.

The designing process is simple, I think about something awesome, then do a 3D model, see if it looks good, then try to make a prototype (or 10 because it usually never works the first time) in my little garage workshop and if it works then real carpenters take care of the production.
